Self-publishing Dos and Don’ts
Over the past two years of writing and self-publishing my stories I have learned so many lessons. In particular, the post-writing phase of publishing is where I acquired numerous insights.
Don’t accept a free International Standard Book Number (ISBN) because it limits control over where and how to sell your books. Instead, invest in purchasing your own ISBNs to have the freedom to sell your books independently. I purchase my ISBNs using Bowker Publishing Services.
Do take the time to also apply for a Library of Congress catalog control number (LCCC) for your book. With an LCCC, you can submit your books to libraries, which is a process that can help expand your stories reach and availability. For more information about LCCC, visit the Library of Congress website and search for publisher services.
Now that I shared two big dos and don’ts for self-publishing, feel free to sign up for my monthly newsletters. I’ve learned so much about expanding my writing and publishing circle to include editing, illustrations, cover art, formatting and the list continues. Contact me through my website if you have any questions. I’ll be happy to share my writing and publishing knowledge with you.
Now that lessons have been learned, I’m super excited for the future promotional opportunities of my latest series Arcade Games.
